Working with files in the Site Files view
Use the Site Files view to view local and remote sites as lists of files, to open files, to rename files, to add new folders or files to a site, or to refresh the view of a site after changes have been made. You can also use Site Files view to determine which files (on either site) have been updated since the last time they were transferred. To view the site files:
Do one of the following:
Choose Window > Site Files to open the Site window in Site Files view. | |
In the Site window, click the Site Files button. |
To open a file from the Site Files view:
Double-click the file's icon.
To add a new folder to a site:
1 | Make sure a file or folder is selected in the Site window; the new folder is created inside the current selected folder, or in the same folder as the current selected file. |
2 | Choose File > New Folder in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > New Folder (Macintosh). |
You can also access this option from the context menu within the Site window. | |
3 | Enter a name for the new folder. |
To add a new file to a site:
1 | Make sure a file or folder is selected in the Site window; the new file is created inside the current selected folder, or in the same folder as the current selected file. |
2 | Choose File > New File in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > New File (Macintosh). |

3 | Enter a name for the new file. |
To rename a file or folder in a site:
1 | In the Site window, select the file or folder you want to rename and do one of the following to activate the name field next to the file or folder: |
Choose File > Rename (Windows) or Site > Rename (Macintosh) | |
Click on the file, pause, then click again. | |
2 | Type in the new name and press Enter. |
To refresh the Site Files view after making changes outside of Dreamweaver:
Do one of the following:
Choose View > Refresh Local in the Site window(Windows) or Site > Site Files View > Refresh Local (Macintosh). | |
Choose View > Refresh Remote in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > Refresh Remote (Macintosh). | |
Click the Refresh button in the Site window to refresh both panes. |
To locate and select checked out files:
Choose Edit > Select Checked Out Files in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > Select Checked Out Files (Macintosh).
To locate and select newer local files:
Choose Edit > Select Newer Local in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > Select Newer Local (Macintosh).
To locate and select newer remote files:
Choose Edit > Select Newer Remote in the Site window (Windows) or Site > Site Files View > Select Newer Remote (Macintosh).
