Customizing Dreamweaver > Modifying the Objects panel |
By default, the Objects panel is divided into several categories: Characters, Common, Forms, Frames, Head, Invisibles, and Special. (For information on the objects in these categories, see Objects panel.) The categories correspond to folders in the Configuration/Objects folder within the Dreamweaver application folder.
You can move objects from one category to another, rename categories, and remove objects from the panel altogether. To make your changes appear in the Objects panel, you must either quit Dreamweaver and start it again, or reload extensions.
For each object in an Objects panel category, there are two or three files in the corresponding folder:
A GIF file containing an icon for the object
An HTML file containing either the HTML to be inserted into your file or an HTML form that lets you specify data to be inserted (such as the text of a comment)
A JavaScript file (optional) that generates the HTML to be inserted into your file |
To move an object from one Objects panel category to another:
Move all of the object's files (its GIF file, its HTML file, and its JavaScript file if it has one) from one folder to another within the Configuration/Objects folder.
To rename a category on the Objects panel:
Rename the corresponding folder in the Configuration/Objects folder.
To remove an object from the Objects panel:
Move the object's HTML, GIF, and JavaScript files out of the Configuration/Objects folder. (You can delete those files entirely if you're sure you want to remove the object, but it's a good idea to keep a backup around just in case you need to restore the object later.)
To reload extensions:
1 | Control-click (Windows) or Option-click (Macintosh) the categories pop-up menu at the top of the Objects panel. |
2 | Choose Reload Extensions. |
